Inhabitants Welcome to Express Their Opinion on Riga Flood Management Plan

As of today, February 7, public deliberations start on Flood risk management plan and its Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment, developed in the framework of the project “Riga Against Flood”. Deliberations will last until March 17, 2012. Public deliberation meetings will be held on February 17 at 5pm in City Hall (Ratslaukums 1, Room 508), on February 20 at 6pm in Bolderaja library, on February 21 at 6pm in Jugla library and on February 22 at 6pm in Sarkandaugava library.

A contract about the implementation of Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment has been signed

On 29 November, this year, Riga City Council City Development Department signed a contract with "Environmental Consulting Office",ltd. about the implementation of Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment for flood risk management plan of Riga City, which is being developed in the framework of the project "Riga Against Flood". The contract sum is 13 000 LVL (without 22% VAT). The work specified in the contract has to be completed until 31 May, 2012.

Policy Planning Expert Joins the Project Team

As of February 7, 2011 policy planning expert Raina Rudzite starts work at LIFE+ project “Riga against flood”. The main responsibilities of the policy planning expert in the project are to appraise the present situation regarding the existing and potential flood risk territories in Riga City and their impact on the development of the city, to devise a flood risk management plan for Riga City in cooperation with the project team, to take part in performing the strategic evaluation of the impact on the environment within the framework of flood risk management plan and to involve in devising a resource mobilization plan. The policy planning expert will also take part in implementing other project-related activities.

Raina Rudzite has received higher education with specialization in geography at the Faculty of Geography, University of Latvia. She has worked in both private and public sector and has gained a lot of experience in project management, as well as in nature protection and environmental legislation. Raina Rudzite has taken part in implementation of several major national water management infrastructure projects, co-funded by EU.
